MARLA A. - To start, I grew up in a health care environment; because my father is a hematologist and my mother is a dietician, I have developed a first-rate fluency with the health care vocabulary, lifestyle, and nuances. My upbringing encouraged me to become a competitive athlete, achieving national honors in Shotokan karate (black belt) and extremely high levels in soccer. This past summer I was lucky enough to coach soccer in the Fiji Islands, which was by far the most exciting experience in my life. Moreover, this athleticism has often landed me in doctors’ offices, with all sorts of injuries, and helped further my comfort level with the health care environment and also made me realize the importance of training and training right! In addition to my familiarity with the health care field, I also have a strong background in personal training. After successfully completing my ACE personal training certification, almost two years ago, I used my entrepreneurial spirit to build an exceptional client base in just a few months. Working one-on-one with clients has been an interesting and fun experience. My background engaging with diverse populations, from public high school in Brooklyn to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, has made me extremely street savvy as well as people savvy.
